Rye NH - Odiorne State Park Odiorne Point is the largest undeveloped stretch of shore on New Hampshire's eighteen mile coast. Located three miles south of Portsmouth on Route 1A in Rye, Odiorne offers an extensive array of habitats. On the south end of the park, sheltered tide pools of the Sunken Forest give way to an exposed rocky shore. Just north, the shore evolves into a pebble beach which shelters a fresh water marsh. Along the way to Frost Point where a jetty extends into Little Harbor, lies a small sand dune environment. At the end of Little Harbor, Seavey Creek feeds the neighboring salt marsh. Extensive inland disturbances during World War II induced the growth of dense forests in various stages of succession. Large stone walls bound open fields. Fresh water systems are represented within the park by a man-made pond and marsh. Remnants of formal gardens and wildflowers grow side by side; and the man-made military bunkers lie hidden under mounds of earth. |

Residents began petitioning for separation from Hampton as early as 1719, but township was not granted until 1742, following separation of New Hampshire from Massachusetts. North Hampton was the birthplace of General Henry Dearborn, commander-in-chief of the American forces in the War of 1812, for whom Fort Dearborn (Chicago) and Dearborn, Michigan, were named. |

Bedford NH Located about 50 miles from Boston, Bedford, NH is known as an upscale bedroom community for executives commuting to Manchester, Nashua, Concord and Boston. Bedford is made up of about 79 percent residences and 21 percent businesses. The town has created a masterplan to direct commercial growth so that the lifestyle of its residents is not compromised. Near the quaint town center are old farm areas where many of Bedford’s lifelong citizens reside. Hanover NH The Town of Hanover and surrounding region is a part of what is known as "The Upper Valley". Auburn NH Auburn is just minutes from Manchester, but its rural atmosphere makes one think otherwise. The town is primarily a home to commuter to Manchester and other communities. For many years, Auburn had very little population growth. But by the 1960s, Auburn’s rustic charm had been discovered and its population almost doubled. With Manchester’s growth spurt in the 1980s, many new residents came to Auburn for its country atmosphere near the city. New homes continue to be built as the town’s growth continues. Scenic Lake Massabesic, which provides Manchester with its drinking water, is located in Auburn. About a third of the land surrounding the lake is owned by the Manchester Water Works, which has opened it up to hiking, sailing, canoeing and picnicking. The Audubon Society of New Hampshire operates a facility and walking trails at the lake and offers year-round family and school programs. |

Candia NH Candia has retained its rural atmosphere but is no longer a farm community. Instead, most residents commute to jobs in Manchester and other southern New Hampshire communities. Candia is primarily a residential community, with a few small businesses, a kindergarten through eighth grade community school, two private kindergartens and a very active Candia Youth Athletic Association. The spirit of volunteerism is strong in Candia, as was recently demonstrated by residents who built new playing fields for the youth athletic association and developed plans for a new library. Active local organizations include the Junior Women’s Club, Boy and Girl Schouts, church groups, Masons and the PTO. Candia is home to a variety of recreational options, including the 18-hole Candia Woods golf course. Hooksett NH Hooksett's population has grown steadily for the past decade, transforming Hooksett from a small town into the 22nd largest municipality in New Hampshire. Hooksett has kept pace with the increasing demand for housing with dozens of new construction projects. In the past few years, Hooksett has experienced a surge of residential construction that shows no signs of abating.
