Autumn in New Hampshire
With exceptional weather conditions and spectacular autumn colors it is no wonder over half a million people will visit the New Hampshire countryside this fall. Cool nights and warm days have turned the White Mountains into beautiful shades of red, orange and gold. Visitors to New Hampshire are able to enjoy several seasonal activities from hiking New Hampshire's many trails to shopping in the states many outlet stores. Whatever your desire, New Hampshire has what you need for an exceptional autumn vacation.
If history is your passion New Hampshire has several historic covered bridges, many of which date back to the 1800's. These architectural landmarks are a symbol of New Hampshire's past and many of them still accommodate passenger traffic. Visiting these covered bridges make for great day trips and afternoon picnics. Several bridges are in the Lakes Region located in Plymouth, Rumney and Sandwich.
Mt. Washington is arguably New Hampshire's most popular visitor destination. The 6,288 ft mountain is the highest in the northeast and views from the summit extend beyond New Hampshire as far as 130 miles to Vermont, New York, Massachusetts, Maine, Quebec, and the Atlantic Ocean. A modern summit building houses a cafeteria, restrooms, gift shops, the Mount Washington Observatory and its museum. The historic TipTop House is located adjacent to the summit building and is open to visitors when staff is available. If you enjoy shopping on your vacation North Conway, New Hampshire is the place to be. "The Strip" located on Rt. 16 provides visitors with great, tax-free shopping at the many specialty and factory outlet stores. Here you will find great deals on brand name clothing as well as unique artisan shops. Recommended shopping destinations include The HandCrafters Barn and North Country Cottage located on Maine Street in North Conway village.
