The Office of the City Clerk ensures the accurate and efficient production, issuance and retention of vital records and various documents in a manner such that the best interests of the citizens and the City of Portsmouth are served. The Office of City Clerk provides support services for the City Council, publishes and posts all legal notices, attends and records all actions taken by the City Council

The Office of City Clerk updates the local Boards and Commissions list on a continuing basis and administers the "Oath of Office" for appointees. Please click here for descriptions of the boards and commissions and a listing of vacancies.

The office files and preserves as required all contracts, bonds, agreements, ordinance book and other City documents.

The Office of City Clerk also administers and conducts elections in accordance with state and local laws.
