Job Description

Bean Group, a leading New Hampshire real estate brokerage, is looking for a Staff Accountant for our Portsmouth, NH headquarters. This is a full-time exempt position offering competitive salary and benefits. The ideal candidate will have a solid understanding of accounting principles (GAAP), strong analytical skills, and the capability to learn new processes and systems.

Initially this position will be in the corporate office. It may become a hybrid position with the option to work from home 1-2 days/week.

Major Outcomes:

  • Process client earnest money deposits accurately and promptly
  • Process agent commission disbursements and referral payments accurately and promptly
  • Manage accounts payable/receivable
  • Review/reconcile multiple bank accounts daily
  • Communicate detailed explanation of fees, splits, and net commission calculations as required with agents

Specific Responsibilities:

1. Receive and process earnest money deposits:

  • Process incoming earnest money deposits in accordance with Real Estate Commission rules and Bean Group policy and procedures
  • Receive and process earnest money requests for agent closings adhering to company policies

2. Receive and process commission checks:

  • Review transaction files for accuracy and completeness
  • Ensure all compliance issues have been met per company policies and procedures
  • Review and validate transaction details pertaining to sale price, commission amount, referral fees (if appropriate), and any other receivables due
  • Generate payment to agent

3. Manage accounts payable/receivable:

  • Post invoices and pay invoices for multiple companies
  • Post credit card activity
  • Receive and accurately post monthly rent payments from tenants

4. Reconcile accounts:

  • Review and reconcile multiple escrow accounts daily
  • Review and reconcile multiple commission accounts daily
  • Surface, research, and elevate variances as appropriate
  • Reconcile operating and credit card accounts
  • Receive and respond professionally to agent inquiries about disbursements
  • Perform additional related duties as requested


  1. Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance (or equivalent experience)
  2. Proven analytical skills
  3. Solid understanding of accounting application data flow
  4. Ability to maintain sharp attention to detail in a fast-paced, multi-tasking environment
  5. Skilled at prioritization and workflow management to meet various deadlines
  6. Maintains confidentiality in addressing agent financial issues
  7. Prior experience in the real estate industry is a plus
